About Us
Although El CENTRO was formed in 2005, it was born out of an organization that has been working for the past 6 years to educate the Latino immigrant community about rights, to change and preserve pro-immigrant policies, and create a space in which the community can participate in social change.

Mission
El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos’ mission is to work with Latino immigrants and allies to strengthen the community and advance immigrant rights.
Vision
We envision a city, state and nation where immigrants can become a collective, conscious, free and powerful force dedicated to the eradication of violence of any form and the elimination of borders.
We are currently working on the following:
- Policy- Advocating for fair policies at the local, state, and federal level such as pressuring our Congressional delegates to pass a fair and comprehensive immigration reform, ensuring that local and state police don’t enforce immigration laws, and fighting that immigrants in New Mexico, regardless of their immigration status, continue to have access to drivers’ licenses
- Civil Rights- Ensuring that the community understand their rights constitutional rights when encountering the police and the Migra.
- Leadership development- Creating a space in which immigrants can develop and share their leadership skills so that the community has a voice in identifying issues and implementing community appropriate solutions.
- Information and education- Providing the immigrant community with resource and referral information as well as educating the community at large about immigration and immigrant issues.
